How to track individual QR codes in Google Analytics (GA4)

If you print several QR codes for the same property website (for example one on a mailer, one on a sign rider and one on an open house flyer), you can see how many visits each code sends to your site in Google Analytics 4 (GA4). To do this, give each QR code its own version of your website address with UTM tags added to the end.

Step 1: Add your GA4 Measurement ID to your property website

Sign-in to your CRIBFLYER admin panel, select the desired property, open the Tracking Code screen and paste your GA4 Measurement ID. Step by step instructions are here: How to find your Google Analytics 4 measurement ID.

Step 2: Create a tagged URL for each QR code

The built-in CRIBFLYER QR code tool encodes your plain website address and does not add UTM tags, so you will use a free outside tool for this part.

  1. Copy your property website address (for example https://www.cribflyer.com/your-property, or your custom domain if you have one).
  2. Open Google's free Campaign URL Builder and paste in your website address.
  3. Give each QR code a different tag. For example, use utm_source=qr on all of them and a different utm_campaign on each one, such as flyer-mailer, sign-rider or open-house.
  4. Copy the tagged URL that the builder generates. Repeat for each QR code you need.

Step 3: Turn each tagged URL into a QR code

Paste each tagged URL into any free QR code generator and download the codes. Keep track of which code goes on which piece of marketing material.

Step 4: View the results in GA4

Once people start scanning your codes, sign-in to Google Analytics and go to Reports > Acquisition > Traffic acquisition. Change the table to show Session campaign or Session source and each QR code's visits will be listed separately. New data can take up to 24 hours to appear.
