Why does my property website show placeholder photos and content?

When you add a new property that doesn't have any photos yet, its website shows placeholder content instead of an empty page — stock house photos, a sample description, a sample price, and sample amenities. A banner titled Placeholder Mode appears when you open the site, so you know what you're looking at isn't real data. The point is to give you a complete-looking website to preview and design against before your photos are ready.

What puts a website into placeholder mode

One thing only: the property has no photos. That is the entire trigger. A missing price, missing features or an unassigned agent will not put a website into placeholder mode on their own.

How to get out of it

Upload at least one photo to the property. That's all it takes — the placeholder photos and sample content disappear immediately and your real content takes over. There is no setting to switch off and nothing to ask us to change.

If a property already has photos and you're still seeing placeholder content, you're almost certainly looking at a cached copy of the page in your browser. Do a hard refresh (Ctrl-Shift-R on Windows, Cmd-Shift-R on a Mac) or open the website in a private browsing window.

While a property is in placeholder mode, every section of the website is shown so you can see the full design, including sections you have no content for yet. Once you upload a photo, sections with nothing in them are hidden automatically.
