Lyssa has deep volunteer roots in her community and believes in contributing time, energy, and resources to make our corner of the universe a better place. Currently Vice President of her neighborhood Citizens Association, Waynewood Citizens Association, she has served on the board as Past President (2 terms), Past Vice President (4 terms), and Board Member for over 15 years. She is a Friend of UC (United Community) and is an enthusiastic supporter of her area's local schools and non-profits.

Originally from Westchester County New York, Lyssa has lived in Tucson, Arizona, and San Francisco, CA before making Alexandria, Virginia her home of three decades. Lyssa enjoys travel, walking and running (slowly) along the George Washington Parkway and Potomac River, spending time with her family and friends, trying new restaurants, kisses from her beloved dog Elsa, Yoga, Pilates, and bubbly.
